Dr. Amit K. Jain received his B. Pharm. in 1995 from
University of Sagar, India, M. Pharm. Sci. (Medicinal &
Natural Products) in 1997 from University of Mumbai,
India, and Ph.D. (Pharmaceutics) in 2002 from National
Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research
(NIPER), India. For a short period of time, he worked in
the Drug Discovery group at Quest Institute of Life
Sciences, India, then in 2002, he joined Prof. Mitragotri's
research group at the University of California Santa
Barbara (UCSB). At UCSB, he and his team (Prof.
Mitragotri and Pankaj Karande) have developed a tool
called INSIGHT which can screen the transdermal
formulations at significantly higher rate with minimal
possible use of skin as compared to existing tools. His
recent work on the design of chemical penetration
enhancers has shown the importance of molecular forces
like hydrogen bonding, dispersive forces, and lipophilicity
in potency and safety of penetration enhancers. He has
published 11 research articles. 3 review articles, 3 book
chapters, and filed 3 patents.
